Bangkok - May 26, 2017 - Workshop

Dow Thailand Group, led by Poranee Kongamornpinyo, Public Affairs Director of Dow Thailand Group, in collaboration with Chemical Society of Thailand under the Royal Patronage of Prof. Dr. H.R.H. Princess Chulabhorn Walailak, and National Science Museum (NSM) hosted ‘Small-scale Chemistry Laboratory Workshop IV’ activity under “Dow Chemistry Classroom” project. The activity recently held at Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University marking the first year with 180 science teachers nationwide from a total of 100 schools in 29 provinces. ‘Small-scale Chemistry Laboratory Workshop IV’ activity signifies Dow’s determination in expanding the knowledge of small-scale chemistry laboratory technique to science teachers nationwide for the first time. This activity aims to support the use of small-scale chemistry techniques in secondary schools and allow students to gain hands-on experience, learn about safe experiment method with less chemical use. During the training, 21 role-model science teachers from the previous three generations also joined the event to share experiences and knowledge on using the small-scale chemistry laboratory techniques and how they support science education in schools.

About Dow Chemistry Classroom Project

Dow Thailand Group is determined to bolster science knowledge among the youth by collaborating with Chemical Society of Thailand under the Royal Patronage of Prof. Dr. H.R.H. Princess Chulabhorn Walailak. “Dow Chemistry Classroom” project was initiated with the intention to support chemistry class at schools through the use of a small-scale chemistry laboratory technique which is an effective and safe experiment method that simplifies chemical experiment while reducing chemical wastes. Students can obtain a hands-on experience from conducting the experiments themselves not just listening from the lectures. “Dow Chemistry Classroom” project aims to enhance teachers and students’ capability through science study, particularly chemistry, with a small-scale chemistry laboratory technique. The method is recognized by UNESCO and practiced internationally in chemistry classes around the world including the United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, Mexico, the Philippines, Japan, China, and Cambodia. This is considered to be the first time that the private sector has concretely adopted a small-scale chemistry laboratory method for Thai educational system.
