Bangkok – March 30, 2020 – Dow Thailand Group and Solvay Group in Thailand have donated 600 tons of hydrogen peroxide solution, a product of MTP HP JV Company (the joint venture company between Dow and Solvey) to Thai government’s Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration to make 15 million liters of disinfectant spray. The solution was presented to Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Thailand’s deputy prime minister and the ministry of public health by Mr. Chatchai Luanpolcharoenchai, Dow Thailand President.
The 15 million liters of disinfectant can be used on 300 million square meters, which covers the city of Bangkok and risk areas in the other provinces. We also received a kind contribution from our business partners: Schutz Thailand for tank containers and Yusen Logistics for part of the transportation.
Hydrogen peroxide is a raw material for the production of propylene oxide, which is a substrate for propylene glycol, polyurethane, and glycol ether productions. Examples of daily consumer products containing hydrogen peroxide are shampoo, cosmetics, and bleach.
Hydrogen peroxide can be used to disinfect against many types of germs, including viruses and bacteria. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), using only 0.5% of hydrogen peroxide can kill germs within 1 minute. Typically, the hydrogen peroxide solution available at drug stores is at 3% concentration. It either can be used for disinfection or cleaning proposes or can be diluted to 0.5% before applying.
