Dow announces new Propylene Glycol capacity in Thailand to meet growing demand

New capacity to support global growth in flavor and fragrance, personal care, food and pharmaceutical markets; expected to come online in 2024

Bangkok – 2 July 2021 – Dow (NYSE: DOW), the global leading materials science company, has announced a plan to expand its propylene glycol (PG) capacity at its existing facility in Map Ta Phut Operations, Rayong, Thailand. This high return, incremental investment supports growing demand and advances Dow’s leading positions in attractive flavor and fragrance, personal care, food and pharmaceutical markets growing above GDP.

Expected to begin production in 2024, the Thailand facility expansion includes an 80,000 ton per year increase in propylene glycol capacity – bringing total capacity to 250,000 tons per year. Once complete this will make the Dow Thailand’s PG facility the largest of its kind in Asia Pacific. This capacity will serve customers and support their growth in Asia Pacific and India.

“This increased propylene glycol capacity optimizes our existing asset infrastructure to enable continued growth in high-value applications and positions us to better serve our customers in fast-growing markets,” said Jane Palmieri, president, Dow Industrial Intermediates & Infrastructure.

“Dow Thailand Group’s ‘Map Ta Phut Operations’ is the largest manufacturing base for Dow in the Asia Pacific with proven track record of operational excellence in safety, reliability, and productivity. This investment is a testament to the trust given to Thai team to expand our capacity for serving demand growth of customers.” said Chatchai Luanpolcharoenchai, President of Dow Thailand

Dow’s leading propylene glycol franchise upgrades basic chemical building blocks to produce high-quality ingredients for cosmetics, food, pharmaceuticals and many other products for everyday use. The investment plan falls within the Company’s previously committed capital expenditure targets.
