Bangkok – February 13, 2020 – Dow Thailand Group led by Wachiraporn Pothipong, Site Liaison & Special Community Project Manager, in partnership with the Chemical Society of Thailand, continued its chemistry learning initiative by organizing the Dow Chemistry Academy workshop under the “Dow Chemistry Classroom” project at Mandarin Hotel Bangkok. Over 100 teachers from Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar and Indonesia not only learned about creating a circular economy for plastics, but also were in-depth trained about the small-scale laboratory techniques by renowned professors. The teachers were also encouraged to brainstorm approaches to overcome existing obstacles in learning science in the region and had a chance to exchange ideas on ways to develop science teaching materials by adopting the small-scale laboratory techniques in alignment with the curriculum and resources available in the area. Most importantly, the teachers joining the scheme are expected to bring learning points from the project back to their schools to inspire others by passing on the new chemistry teaching techniques to students and teachers across the region.
In addition, the teachers participated in the Pure and Applied Chemistry International Conference (PACCON 2020) at Impact Forum, Muangthong Thani to exchange knowledge with more than 1,000 international chemical specialists. At the event, 2 teachers who won the 2019 DOW-CST Award were given a trophy by Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulaborn Krom Phra Srisavangkawadhana.
