Dow hands over the first-ever Executive Functions Center in Thailand, a learning hub for Rayong communities to develop children to become quality citizens

RAYONG – March 13, 2020 – Dow Thailand led by Decha Panichyapichet, site director, and Poranee Kongamornpinyo, Southeast Asia public affairs leader, inaugurated a Rayong EF Center, the first-ever center in Thailand for children’s executive functions development, at Map Ta Phut Municipality’s public health center together with Surasak Charoensirichote, Rayong governor, and community leaders.

The Rayong EF Center is part of the ‘DOW-EF Development for Successful Youth & Rayong Happiness’ project initiated in 2016 through integrated and sustainable collaboration among Dow and community volunteers including community leaders, teachers, village health volunteers, health promoting hospital officers, public health officers, and nurseries. The objective is to enhance youth care with Executive Functions (EF) at early childhood so that they become good and great citizens of the nation.

Executive Functions (EF) development in children is directly related to neuroscience and high-level brain processing especially in the frontal part of the brain. EF is classified into three groups which are Basic Skills, Self-Regulation Skills, and Practice Skills and is subcategorized into nine skills. EF needs to be well developed as it constructively contributes to one’s life. The prime period for EF development is between the ages of 3-6 years old until pre-adult. This indicates that the earlier we develop these skills in children, the better we can enhance their learning process enabling them to have life immunity.

Open on Mondays-Fridays from 8 AM to 5 PM, the Rayong EF Center is a public learning center which helps promote physical and mental development of children at all ages through hands-on activities and fun multimedia. In addition, the center includes local knowledge of Map Ta Phut and Rayong province for children and parents to learn at the same time.

Currently, the “DOW-EF Development for Successful Youth & Rayong Happiness” project has expanded to 191 schools and 119 public health institutions in Rayong. More than 900 community volunteers have helped drive the activities for more than 10,000 people. This indicates that a strong partnership is the key to success to help lead Thai children on the path to happiness and to create a better world of all of us.
