Dow leads the blueprint of the sustainable industry in Thailand

Bangkok – 8 September 2020 – Driving our 2025 Sustainability Goals, Dow Thailand has brought together governments, non-governmental organizations, and Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the "Dow for sustainable industry" program. We have recently announced 2020 collaborative activities to create a blueprint for Thai SMEs by launching the Industry 4.0 handbook for the first time in Thailand. The manual, which provides shortcuts for SMEs to develop their potential in production effectiveness, safety standard, and environmental-friendly production, will be distributed free of charge. Moreover, Zero plastic waste for the production process certification system has also been launched as a part of the program. Not only enhancing Thai SMEs' operation excellence to facilitate the transition to a sustainable planet and society, but the collaboration also addresses Dow's new sustainability targets of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and stop plastic waste.

The Industry 4.0 handbook contains simple and practical information on how to improve the production process to be ready for Industry 4.0 using the Internet of Things technology and a potential assessment form used to check a factory's current status. The form can be submitted to experts for free-scoring. The handbook's contents will be continually edited in the following year, adding more study cases.

This marks the first time that a Zero Plastic Waste accreditation system is encouraged to be used with SMEs. The program hopes that it will lead to more extensive use of the system among SMEs and eventually become a new standard in Thailand.

Partnering with Dow Thailand are the Department of Industrial Promotion under the Ministry of Industry, the Plastics Institute of Thailand, the Faculty of Engineering, Thammasat University, the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), and the Faculty of Engineering, Kasetsart University.
